If you coach on Trainerize and you keep hearing that AI is about to change everything, here is the short version.
Trainerize has real AI inside it now. It will draft a program faster than you can build one by hand. It will help with meal plans and flag clients who look like they are drifting. That is genuinely useful and you should turn it on.
What it will not do is know your business. It does not know how you talk to a client who has missed two weeks. It does not know your intake process, your pricing, your rules about when somebody is ready to progress, or the thing you always say at the end of a check-in. It knows the client record in front of it. It does not know you.
That gap is the whole reason I started filming this series. Here is what the platform does, where it stops, and everything I have built to fill in the rest. All of it is free and the links are further down.
What Trainerize AI actually does
Trainerize (now branded ABC Trainerize) has shipped a handful of AI features. Based on their own product and blog material, these are the ones that matter:
- AI Workout Builder. The headline feature. You describe the client’s goal, their equipment and their history, and it generates a structured program you can edit and assign without leaving the app. Trainerize says a four week plan that used to take 45 to 60 minutes can take under 10. That is their own number, so take it as a direction rather than a promise, but the direction is right.
- Smart meal planning and AI meal tracking. Nutrition drafts and logging help on the client side. Advanced nutrition is a paid add on, so check your plan.
- Client analytics. Flags clients whose engagement is slipping, which is the retention problem most coaches notice three weeks too late.
If you have not used the Workout Builder yet, go do it on one client today. Generate, edit, assign, and notice how long it took versus building from scratch. That is the fastest win available to you inside the platform.
Where Trainerize AI stops
Every coach I talk to hits the same wall, and it is not a complaint about Trainerize. It is a limit of what any in app AI can do.
It gets you a draft, not a finished plan. One independent review put the Workout Builder at roughly 60 to 70 percent of a finished program. You still need to look at volume, progression and deloads before it reaches a client. That matches my experience. It is a strong first draft and a weak final answer.
It only knows what is in the client record. Your business lives in a dozen other places. Your CRM. Your calendar. Your payment processor. Your forms. The spreadsheet you will not admit to. Trainerize AI cannot see any of that, so it cannot reason about it.
It does not know your voice or your standards. This is the one that actually matters. The reason generic AI output feels generic is that it has no idea who you are. A check in reply written by something that has never read your coaching philosophy will always read like it was written by something that has never read your coaching philosophy. Clients can tell.
It does not get better at being you. Every session starts from zero. Nothing you corrected last week carries into this week.
So you end up with a faster program builder and the same amount of everything else.
What to build on top
The fix is not a better prompt. I want to be blunt about this because it is the single most expensive misunderstanding in the space right now: writing longer and cleverer prompts does not solve this. You are trying to describe your entire business in a text box, every single time.
What works is giving the AI your business up front, once, in a form it reads before you ask it anything. Your role and who you serve. What you are responsible for each week. Which tools hold which data. Your rules, the real ones. Your reference material. The routines you run on a schedule.
That is the difference between an assistant that drafts a plausible program and an assistant that knows Kayla is eight weeks out from a half marathon, that you never progress somebody to a heavier bell until their hinge looks right, and that your Tuesday check in block runs from a specific list in your project manager.
Once that is in place, the same assistant handles check in drafts, onboarding sequences, program design, your admin, your marketing and the parts of the business you have been meaning to systemise for two years. Not because the model got smarter. Because it finally has the context.

Questions coaches keep asking
Does Trainerize have AI? Yes. Trainerize has an AI Workout Builder that generates programs from a client’s goals and history, plus smart meal planning, AI meal tracking and client analytics that flag disengaged clients. Availability varies by plan.
Is the Trainerize AI Workout Builder any good? It is a strong first draft and a weak final answer. Independent reviews put it around 60 to 70 percent of a finished program. Use it to skip the blank page, then apply your own eye to volume, progression and deloads before the plan reaches a client.
Can Trainerize AI write my client check ins? Not on its own. Trainerize’s own guidance describes a semi manual workflow where you paste the client’s responses into an AI tool, review the draft and send it yourself. To get drafts that sound like you, the AI needs your coaching philosophy and your standards in front of it, which is what the toolkit above sets up.
Do I need to be technical to do this? No. Everything in this series starts in a desktop app, not a terminal. The files live in a normal folder on your own computer. The command line only shows up when it earns its place.
Will AI replace online coaches? No, and anything a client receives should still be approved by a human. The coaches who win here are the ones who use AI to remove the admin and the repetitive drafting so they can spend more time actually coaching.
Where to go next
Turn on the Workout Builder today. It is the cheapest hour you will save this week.
Then build the thing underneath it. Start with The Source of Truth, because every other piece reads from it.
If you would rather not do it alone, I work with coaches one to one and we build it together on your business.
Twenty years NASM certified, 400 plus Trainerize trainers served, and about 2,000 hours inside this tooling. I am not guessing at this.
Claude is made by Anthropic. Trainerize is a trademark of its owner. Fitness Marketing Machine is independent of both.
